Privacy Policy
RootSpring takes the privacy of your family's information seriously. We keep two simple commitments: a Privacy Policy that limits how we use your information, and a Data Policy that keeps you in control of it — including where it's stored and how you take it with you. This page summarizes our approach in plain language. For the full legal terms, see our [Terms of Service].
Privacy Policy
- No unwanted contact. We won't use your email to contact you beyond replying to your queries or sending you required legal or account confirmations.
- No data sales. We never sell your information or share it with third-party marketers, and we don't use your tree content to build ad profiles or target ads.
- Family only. Your tree is only visible to family members you've invited. Invitations are sent by the project owner or someone they've authorized, and each invite carries a defined role. Note: collaborators can view, and depending on their role, edit or download the tree's information.
Data Policy
- Full control. Your family history belongs to you. Export it at any time as a standalone HTML file, a print-ready PDF, or GEDCOM (including photos), so it's never locked into RootSpring.
- Your storage, your choice. We offer an option to store projects in your own storage — connect your Google Drive so your tree data and photos live in an account you control, instead of RootSpring's built-in storage.
- Minimal footprint for Drive projects. When a project is Drive-backed, we don't store your tree content ourselves — but connecting to it requires us to keep a small amount of metadata on our servers: an encrypted access token, references to the files we created in your Drive, and basic project settings. This is only what's needed to keep the connection working, and you can revoke it anytime from your Google account settings. Because of this, if you disconnect Google Drive but don't delete the project itself, the project will still appear in the app — though its content won't be accessible until the connection is restored.
